Lead Testing

Lead Paint WindowLead from chipping or peeling paint can mix with dust and soil in and around your home making it available for young children to ingest during normal hand-to- mouth play. In addition to chipping and pealing lead paint being a hazard, a freshly remodeled home can also be a danger. In the remodeling process lead dust and lead chips can mix with dust and soil from scraping and sanding old painted surfaces.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) consider lead poisoning to be the #1 environmental health threats to American children. It is easy for poisonous lead dust to contaminate your home. Each year in the United States 310,000 1- to 5-year-old kids are found to have unsafe levels of lead in their blood. The symptoms can range from headaches, stomach pain, anemia, nervous system damage, slow growth, and even some behavioral problems. Lead poisoning can also prevent a child's brain from developing properly. Not only is lead poisoning a grave danger to young children, but an unborn child can be exposed to lead poisoning while still in the mother’s womb.

Lead Testing
Lead paint in home building was not regulated until 1978, so most houses built before 1978 contain some lead-based paint. The older the house the greater the risk is for having lead contamination. Lead-based paint is not dangerous if it is properly cared for. But, when lead-based paint deteriorates, it creates an invisible, tasteless, and odorless toxic lead dust. The good news is that you can protect your family from lead poisoning, buy having your home inspector perform lead testing in and around your home to determine if any mitigation should be performed on your new home.
