New owners, Shane Smith, Norman Smith, and Gerald Jackson are a family who’s excited to serve the Chicago area!
Shane is a former electronics engineering technician. Prior to owning a HomeTeam franchise, he spent 30 years in this field. Norman comes from a 20-year background in sales and marketing leadership, specializing in agile project management, business transformation and strategic planning. He’s a proven problem solver and creative thinker.
Gerald is a certified engineering draftsman who has experience in the structural, architectural and civil engineering field. His most exciting job was working for a global leader in the power generation industry where he worked on a nuclear powerplant inspecting, evaluating, and preparing written and graphic reports on an existing site condition for electrical pipelines and other conduits. All three have experiences and come from industries that would prove beneficial to HomeTeam.
What sparked their interest in becoming owners were the boundless possibilities a career in the home inspection field presented, along with the low barriers to entry cost. Home inspections are essential for homes to sell in Illinois, so they jumped on a great opportunity.
“A departure from the norm is what really drew me in,” shares Shane about HomeTeam. He saw that HomeTeam was in a position to take over the market. Gerald notes that professionalism, support resources, and a deep knowledge of the home inspection industry also played a role in selecting HomeTeam over competitors. Norman was impressed by the family-like culture and integrity of the staff.
Shane likes to make homemade beer and wine in his free time. He loves cars and motorcycles— anything that goes fast! He also enjoys a good game of golf every now and again. An interesting fact about Shane is that he can fix just about anything, making him very handy.
Norman is involved with the Project Management Institute of Dallas, an organization focused on strengthening project managers in their careers. When he’s not working, you can find him playing golf. Norman is from Jamaica originally and dreams of exploring the beautiful Caribbean islands in his catamaran someday.
Gerald is an avid Jehovah’s witness. He spreads the teachings of the bible by going door-to-door and informing people about his church. Gerald truly enjoys discussing the problems of today with his community. In his spare time, he enjoys carpentry, reading and gardening—he has enough vegetables to feed his whole family!
Both Norman and Gerald’s wives will be involved in the business by sharing ideas with them, acting as an unofficial advisory board. We wish them all the best in their endeavors with HomeTeam!
