Adam Long shares how home inspections aren’t there to scare the home buyer, but to provide an overview of the home and its components.

In an interview with Realtor Magazine, HomeTeam Inspection Service President Adam Long shared how home inspections can provide a visual review of the home’s structure and its key components. He provided insight on how homebuyers can best decipher potential red flags in larger inspection items, such as:

  • Structural or foundation issues
  • Aluminum wiring
  • Dated electrical panels
  • Plumbing issues
  • Floor joists
  • HVAC system
  • Safety issues
  • Drainage spots

Long added that home inspectors will provide a written summary of the inspection and should inform and explain to a client everything they find and respond to any questions.

“They are not there to scare a home buyer,” he said. “Some items they may find need to be replaced, budgeted for replacement later on or may be used to renegotiate on the price.”

Though these larger inspection items may alarm buyers, Long advises against panicking after receiving a full report from the home inspector, emphasizing that most issues are fixable and may just require further investigation or negotiation.

“Everything is fixable,” Long noted. “None of these items need to be deal-breakers. They may just need further review if they’re spotted in a home inspection report, and they may be potential points for further negotiations.”
